the markings above them, names or calligraphy?
the symbols are ancient Meredian (so named in Rum, where they are only known of vagule. their chief language was eventually tailored from the vague understanding of the "divine" speak)
in Marra, the parallel world where it originates, the symbols appear above the heads as a depiction of how someone is feeling. They actually are different for almost every individual (which is why meridian is only loosely based off some of the symbols they have found written on ancient ruins such as Bismoth and Rubluff- areas that are considered -overlaps- that are much closer to the parallel Marra, which in a sense, is sort of no longer completely parralell since the two worlds have become a little, crisscrossed a bit)
anyway- they symbols cannot be seen my most rumians who enter marra. However, Olreck, the one in the middle, can see them- for reasons I cant really explain since its a huge spoiler of sorts.
